    Advocating for Exceptionally Gifted Young People: A Guidebook
    The Davdison Institute Team designed this guidebook for parents interested in addressing the needs of their exceptionally gifted
    children. It is to be used as an organizational tool and informational guide to building a strong foundation for parent advocacy efforts. The information included is presented in a series of steps to prepare you for effective advocacy results.

    Association for Bright Children of Ontario
    This organization is an all-volunteer, provincially incorporated registered charity, with many chapters across Ontario. It is dedicated to providing information, advocacy and support to parents of bright and gifted children and adolescents through newsletters, networking, an annual conference and local workshops. It offers the parents' voice to local school boards, educators, professional groups and the Ontario Ministry of Education.
    Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
    The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
    InterGifted
    InterGifted is an adult community and an adolescent community of nearly 1,000 gifted peers which also offers qualitative giftedness assessments, gifted coaching & mentoring, gifted therapy search & advocacy, workshops/courses, training for helping professionals working with gifted clients, and literature and advocacy on gifted personal development.
    Prometheus Society
    Established in 1982, this international society brings together highly gifted individuals from the top 1 in 30,000 people and offers online discussions, newsletters, and online tools to connect these profoundly gifted people.
    The Global Center for Gifted and Talented Children
    This organization offers a broad spectrum of services for gifted children, parents and specialists involved in gifted education. Daily work includes psychological and pedagogical consultancy, diagnosis and coaching. Their vision is to help gifted children discover their own strengths and dreams; and to pursue those dreams against all odds.
    The International Gifted Consortium (IGC) and Research Center for the Highly/Profoundly Gifted (Scottsdale, AZ)
    The International Gifted Consortium (IGC) is the philanthropic coming together of leaders from across the globe, who possess an empathetic understanding of giftedness in its most acute, highly developed stage. IGC professionals have committed their work to researching and supporting the unique development of this often misunderstood population. Together, the IGC harnesses collective expertise, to educate the world and eradicate misunderstanding, for the betterment of human development.

    Accelerated Academics (Carlsbad, CA)
    Accelerated Academics provides an innovative approach to serving the challenges of K-12 students with unique gifts and talents. They provide consulting services, assessments, and individualized academic programming for students who have high intellectual and/or creative abilities and talents. They also provide an ideal learning situation for highly talented students who require absence from a traditional school setting in order to pursue activities, training, and events such as Performing Arts, Tennis, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Ice Skating, Golf, and Surfing.
    Beyond Giftedness Conference (Arvada, CO)
    This long-standing conference is held on the last Friday in February in Arvada, Colorado. With a focus on practical tools that can be used with the gifted children in your life, it features keynote presentations and breakouts given by leaders in the field of gifted education, exhibitors, a parent workshop, and the opportunity to connect with others in the field of gifted education.
    Blue Valley Parent Advocates for Gifted Education (BVPAGE) (Johnson County, KS)
    This is a volunteer parent group chartered to support high ability and gifted students, their parents, gifted educators, and the gifted education program as a whole in the Blue Valley School District in Kansas. BVPAGE provides experience and knowledge for those just joining the gifted program, for the 1,700 identified currently identified students in the gifted education program, or those who are progressing into new areas and educational experiences.
    Boulder Gifted Parent Support (BoulderGPS) - Boulder, CO
    BoulderGPS (Gifted Parent Support) is an independent cooperative group of parents formed to help facilitate connections, communication and support among families in and around the Boulder area.
    Central New York Gifted Youth
    Central New York Gifted Youth is dedicated to helping parents, guardians and educators support gifted youth in Central New York. We share local events of educational value, and links and articles on the topic of giftedness.
    Chicago Gifted Community Center (Chicago, IL)
    The Chicago Gifted Community Center is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization created by parents of gifted children living throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. From firsthand experience, members understand how difficult it can be for gifted students to find a place where they fit in and can be their true authentic selves; where they can be welcomed, accepted and valued for who they really are. The goal of this organization is to pull together the people, ideas and resources to maximize the opportunities and connections available to gifted children and their families in the Chicago area.
    Colorado - Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented
    Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented (BVGT) is a group of parents and educators who advocate for the academic and affective needs of gifted and talented individuals.
    Colorado - Denver Association for Gifted & Talented (DAGT)
    DAGT is the Denver Affiliate of the Colorado Association of Gifted & Talented (CAGT).
    Colorado - NOCO (Northern Colorado Gifted)
    The NOCO Gifted Community is an official affiliate of the Colorado Association of Gifted & Talented, serving Loveland and Ft. Collins.
    Frisco Gifted Association (FGA) (TX)
    Frisco Gifted Association (FGA) is a non-profit organization of parents, educators and community members who are committed to supporting and creating expanded opportunities for the education of gifted and talented students under age 19 and their families in Frisco, Texas. FGA supports and encourages and facilitates the development of such programs, both within the public schools and as extra-curricular activities utilizing community and individual resources.
    New York - Synergy: Westchester's Advocacy for Gifted & Talented Education (New Rochelle, NY)
    Synergy is an organization of concerned parents, educators and advocates dedicated to promoting the education and welfare of gifted and talented learners in Westchester County, New York. We invite parents, teachers, administrators and all those interested in gifted and talented education to become part of Synergy.     Rochester SAGE (Supporting Advanced & Gifted Education) (MI)
    This is a grassroots organization to encourage Michigan’s Rochester Community Schools to implement a program for advanced and gifted students from elementary through high school. Rochester’s current differentiation program often does not adequately meet the needs of advanced and gifted students, may not provide a challenging and stimulating environment for them, and can harm advanced students as they do not develop necessary skills in overcoming challenges, studying difficult material, and persisting through hard work.
    Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) Scholars (New York, NY and San Francisco, CA)
    SEO Scholars is an academic advocacy program based in New York City and San Francisco, which aims to motivate low-income public high school students to get to, and graduate from, competitive colleges and universities. High school students are offered classes on Saturdays, after school and during the summers to prepare them for college. Once in college, SEO Scholars are supported through direct, ongoing counseling to assist with adjusting to college life, building academic success skills, exploring career options and securing internships.

    American Association for Gifted Children at Duke University (AAGC) (NC)
    The American Association for Gifted Children (AAGC) is the nation's oldest advocacy organization for gifted children. Throughout its history, AAGC has published materials for the educational research community, for people in the medical profession, and for parents and teachers of gifted children.
    Center for Gifted Education Policy (CGEP)
    The mission of CGEP is to generate public awareness, advocacy, clinical applications, and cutting-edge research ideas to enhance the achievement and performance of children and adolescents with special gifts and talents. The CGEP, housed within the American Psychological Association (APA), provides public awareness, support, new research discoveries and clinical applications that develop success and performance for gifted and talented children and adolescents.
    Child Mind Institute (New York, NY)
    This organization seeks to improve the lives of children and teens struggling with psychiatric and learning disorders by integrating the following: Accessible, evidence-based clinical care for children and their families; collaborative research engaging scientists from around the world; comprehensive information and resources to educate and empower parents; and focused advocacy to destigmatize childhood psychiatric disorders and bring effective care to families around the globe.
    Davidson Institute for Talent Development
    In 1999, Bob and Jan Davidson founded the Davidson Institute for Talent Development to support our nation's brightest young people. This national nonprofit, headquartered in Reno, Nev., provides a variety of programs including: Davidson Young Scholars, Davidson Fellows scholarships, the THINK Summer Institute, Educators Guild and the Davidson Academy. Additionally, the Davidsons co-authored the book Genius Denied: How to Stop Wasting Our Brightest Young Minds, published by Simon & Schuster in 2004.
    GT Carpe Diem - Self-Advocacy for Gifted Teens
    GT Carpe Diem Workshops empower gifted teens to speak up for themselves through a clearer understanding of their unique needs as outliers and their rights to an appropriately challenging educational experience. Following this day of exploration and reflection they are better able to take charge of their own educations and lives. Adults who attend (teachers, gifted education coordinators and school counselors) actively engage with students throughout the day and advocate for them in their home schools.
    Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA)
    The Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA) seeks to meet the specific needs of gifted students so that they can reach their full intellectual and personal potential. IEA provides customized programs that match each student's unique gifts and talents with the most appropriate mentors, schools, and other learning environments to maximize intellectual and personal development. IEA also offers the Gifted Resource Center (GRC), a free public tool serving as an online database of resources appropriate for the gifted learner.
    Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
    The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is a private, independent foundation, established by Jack Kent Cooke to help exceptionally promising students reach their full potential through education. The Foundation offers financial support to qualified applicants through the Young Scholars Program with students applying in their 7th grade year. The foundation has launched an undergraduate college scholarship for high-performing high school seniors.
    Malone Family Foundation
    The Malone Family Foundation was founded in 1997 by Dr. John C. Malone and his family, with one principal objective: to improve access to quality education -- particularly at the secondary school level -- for gifted students who lack the financial resources to best develop their talents. Through the Malone Scholars Program, the Foundation has provided scholarship endowments to select independent secondary schools throughout the United States, insuring continuing scholarships for top students who are motivated to excel but lack the resources to fund such an education. Malone network schools have been selected through a rigorous research process, and the schools themselves select Malone scholars annually. The Malone Schools Online Network (MSON) is a consortium of Malone schools that provides upper level students (generally juniors and seniors) at participating schools with a variety of superior online courses that enhance each member school's existing curriculum.
    National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
    The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), an organization of parents and educators, addresses the needs of children from all cultures, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic groups with demonstrated gifts and talents as well as those children who may be able to develop their talent potential with appropriate educational experiences. NAGC supports and engages in research and development, staff development, advocacy, communication, and collaboration with other organizations and agencies who strive to improve the quality of education for all students.
    National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) - Administrator Toolbox
    With short videos, factsheets, diagrams and a program evaluation checklist, the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Administrator Toolbox is a webpage for school district leaders and administrators across the nation with free resources to help them better serve high-ability learners. The materials in the toolbox are grouped into four sections: rationale for gifted education; basics of gifted education programming; accountability for gifted student learning; and connecting gifted education to other school practices, such as Response to Intervention.
    National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
    The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8. NAEYC is committed to becoming an increasingly high performing and inclusive organization. Founded in 1926, NAEYC is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children with more than 100,000 members, a national network of nearly 450 local, state, and regional Affiliates, and a growing global alliance of like-minded organizations.

    National Society for the Gifted & Talented™ (NSGT), (Stamford, CT)
    The NSGT is a non-profit foundation that honors and encourages gifted and talented children and youth by providing recognition of their significant academic and artistic accomplishments and access to educational resources and advanced learning opportunities directly related to their interests and talent areas.
    ParentAdvocates.org (Parent Advocates)
    ParentAdvocates.org is an online newsmagazine which seeks to inform and empower parents. The goal of ParentAdvocates.org is to put your child's education into your own hands.     Princeton Learning Cooperative (NJ)
    The Princeton Learning Cooperative is a center that helps teenagers live and learn without school by supporting teens to create a personalized education based on their interests, abilities and goals. The organization offer help developing a personalized plan, classes that run throughout the day, tutoring, help finding internship and volunteer opportunities, mentoring, help with college admissions and a safe and comfortable place for students to work and socialize.
    Schott’s Opportunity to Learn Network (OTL)
    Schott’s Opportunity to Learn Network (OTL) unites a nationwide coalition of grantees and allied organizations working to secure a high quality public education for all students. By creating a space to highlight and celebrate grassroots organizing, share success stories and provide resources, OTL strives to create real and substantial change in our public education system. OTL advocates for supports­-based education reform, one that provides all students with access to crucial resources and opportunities such as early education, wraparound supports, fair school discipline, well­-supported teachers, and equitable school funding.
    Stand for Children
    Stand for Children is a grassroots organization that gives voice to children’s issues. Members mobilize on all levels, including local, national and state. Information is provided on how to develop a chapter in your area to advocate for various issues affecting youth.
    Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG)
    Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) is a national non-profit organization "dedicated to fostering environments in which gifted adults and children, in all their diversity, understand and accept themselves and are understood, valued, nurtured, and supported by their families, schools, workplaces and communities."
    The Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice
    "It is the mission of the Center to support and to promote a reoriented national preparedness to foster the development and adjustment of children with or at risk of developing serious emotional disturbance.     Gifted Support Network (Missouri)
    Based in Missouri, the Gifted Support Network seeks to provide information, connection, and enrichment to families of gifted and high-ability children. The Gifted Support Network is based in St. Charles County, although their events are also easily accessible from the neighboring St. Louis, Warren, and Lincoln counties. They also partner with Lindenwood University to offer graduate credit to educators.
    GiftedMatters4Kids.com
    Located in New York, Dr. Susan Paynter, a child advocate, award-winning educator, and nationally recognized expert on gifted learners, helps schools and families create customized strategies designed to help gifted children feel challenged, successful, and fulfilled. She works one-on-one and collaboratively to design programs that adapt teaching methods to the learning styles of these unique students, rather than trying to adapt the students to the teaching methods. Dr. Paynter offers social skills training, parent support, enrichment classes and IEP development to help gifted kids flourish.
    Prodigy Northwest (Spokane, WA)
    The goals of this organization are to provide the highest level of academic and enrichment opportunities for gifted students by: providing an assortment of enrichment opportunities; working in conjunction with regional K-12 school districts to assist in their efforts to effectively serve gifted students; and assisting in the process of what can be an overwhelming journey for many families.

    California Association for the Gifted (CAG) (CA)
    California Association for the Gifted (CAG) is an organization of educators and parents dedicated to meeting the unique needs of gifted and talented students.
    Green Mountain Center for Gifted Education (Colchester, VT)
    This nonprofit organization seeks to affirm, educate, and support Vermont gifted students and their parents and increase awareness of the needs of the gifted and talented. Through the Center, Vermont's gifted youth have access to summer programs, adults who understand them, programs specially tailored for their needs, and more. In spring of 2017 the Green Mountain Center joined forces with the Vermont Council for Gifted Education (VCGE) to offer Parent Connections meetings in various locations around the state.
    Tennessee Initiative for Gifted Education Reform (TIGER) (TN)
    The purpose of Tennessee Initiative for Gifted Education Reform (TIGER) is to support programs, policy initiatives, and legislation that will expand and enhance advanced educational opportunities for PreK-12 students in Tennessee, and to foster an understanding of gifted children and their exceptional needs. TIGER provides a communication network for parents, educators, policy makers, and other members of the community who are interested in promoting these goals.
    Washington Coalition for Gifted Education (WCGE)
    The mission of the WCGE is to work collaboratively with key state governmental decision makers on issues related to the education of highly capable students, their families, and their schools. The Coalition is the only nonprofit gifted advocacy group in Washington which can hire a lobbyist.

    A Forgotten Voice: A Biography of Leta Stetter Hollingworth
    This book by author A.G. Klein, is about Leta Stetter Hollingworth, the mother of gifted education. Hollingworth has been forgotten, even though her words of 100 years ago are still as relevant today as they were back then. Born in 1886 in rural Nebraska, Leta Hollingworth rose above an abusive childhood and strong prejudice to become an influential psychologist, feminist, educator, author, and advocate for gifted children.

    This book contains articles, essays, and addresses spanning Dr. Roeper's life and work. The articles encompass education, psychology, and Dr. Roeper's philosophy of global awareness, all of which she believes are closely interconnected.

    The TEAK Fellowship aims to help talented New York City students from low-income families gain admission to and succeed at top high schools and colleges. Students are eligible for admission to TEAK in the fall of their sixth grade year. Along with academic support, TEAK provides leadership training, exposure to the arts and outdoors, mentoring, career experience, and assistance with the high school and college application processes. If accepted, programming begins the summer after 6th grade and continues with intensive after-school and Saturday classes during the 7th grade year and beyond.
