FlexSchool is a day school for gifted and twice exceptional (2e) middle and high school students. With two campuses (located in NJ and NY), FlexSchool provides a high-quality, flexible, individualized educational experience for divergent thinkers in middle school, high school and post-graduate year. The school provides one-on-one courses for those students who want to be a part of a school, yet need individual attention in some or all of their courses. The faculty focuses on critical thinking in all areas of learning; a “toolbox” concept emphasizing how to learn rather than an “encyclopedia” concept emphasizing specific material (though all core bases are covered in depth). Block scheduling promotes in-depth discussions and extensive experiments. For students in one-on-one courses, the depth and flexibility of the teaching staff enables students to customize their schedules.
This brick-and-mortar lab school launched by the founder of Khan Academy, Sal Khan, is dedicated to research-based instruction and furthering innovation in education. Khan Lab School serves students ages 5-14+ and is launching a high school in September 2017. Khan Lab School's purpose is to develop new, personalized practices that center around the student. In keeping with Sal Khan’s "One World Schoolhouse" philosophy, KLS provides an extended-year, extended-day, mixed-age program with a project-based learning approach. The academic experience is coordinated by a team of Advisors, Content Specialists, and Associate Teachers who guide students through gradually increasing levels of independence.
The Lang School offers gifted and twice exceptional (2e) learners in grades K through 12 a STEM- and STEAM-driven education informed by the ethics, poetics, and universal questions of the humanities. Our specially trained gifted and special education teachers dually differentiate the content and delivery of our standards-based academics in small classes of no more than 12 students. Our pedagogy dovetails rigorous, accelerated academics and integrated, research-based supports. As a result, we meet each student where they are in their trajectory of learning. Our capstone Talent Development Program nurtures a sense of purpose by identifying and deepening areas of interest and strength, transforming native promise into talent, and facilitating early specialization and the acquisition of professional-level skills and commitment. Serving a community of twice exceptional learners (2e) requires a highly adaptive approach and a flexible mind-set. Our staff has demonstrated their abilities to differentiate for a wide spectrum of learning differences for nearly a decade, continuously improving their practices based on factual evidence, the latest research, and the emergence of new tools. Our ten year know-how about differentiation for gifted students with learning differences meant that the Lang school was uniquely positioned for a world that desperately needed high quality distance learning. Due to our success in rapidly translating our rigorous differentiated curriculum and learning to an online platform, the Lang School has decided to open up a permanent virtual branch — virtualLang — so that we can extend our services to 2e learners across the United States and beyond.
