Aurora Institute
This organization seeks to improve K-12 online learning around the world. Aurora Institute is focused on meeting the needs of the online learning community, including gifted students. Its website includes a number of links to virtual learning resources.
Digital Young Leaders Exchange Program (DYLEP)
This is a four-month long virtual exchange program that connects 325 students from Iraq and the United States. During the program, students use videos, discussion forums, webinars, online chats, and games, to develop their understanding of leadership, global issues, and civic engagement. To promote mutual understanding between Iraq and the United States, students also meet online in small groups and exchange ideas and perceptions towards pertinent issues around the world, including climate change, gender discrimination, and poverty. After the program, students apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired by planning and carrying out service projects online or in their home communities.
Natural History Museum (London, UK)
The Natural History Museum's web site allows those interested biodiversity, minerology, paleontology, entomology, zoology and more to take a peak at the museum's collections. Read about current research or view live online lectures by professionals in the field.
Oak Meadow
Oak Meadow offers an affordable independent school experience for students in kindergarten to grade 12 through distance learning and independent curriculum. Oak Meadow designs progressive, experiential homeschooling curriculum that families can use independently or by enrolling in our fully-accredited, teacher-supported distance learning school.

Advanced Academics
Advanced Academics provides online and blended learning solutions to help students reach their full potential. With a proprietary program to keep students engaged and enrolled in online courses, their comprehensive approach to student success includes: teaching services, tutoring services and student success coaching. Beast Academy - Art of Problem Solving (AoPS)
Beast Academy, a project from the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), provides a full, rigorous and entertaining curriculum for aspiring math students in grades two through five. Four fully-illustrated guides per grade provide complete lessons, delivered by the Beast Academy instructors in an engaging comic book style. All Beast Academy books are aligned to national Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Beast Academy also now has a new online learning system for elementary school math that provides over 600 lessons, 10,000 problems, and access to the digital versions of the Beast Academy Guide books.
Carmel Institute
An independent study program for homeschooled students, Carmel Institute guides junior high and high school students through project-based, multidisciplinary curricula that is fully individualized to meet each student's interests and learning needs. The online school mentors students through individualized, multi-disciplinary, project-based curriculum that integrates the theory and practice of STEM into all core subject areas. Carmel Institute offers direct one-on-one instruction, supplemented with peer-to-peer interaction on collaborative projects.
Digital Learning Now!
Digital Learning Now! is a national campaign to advance policies that will create a high quality digital learning environment to better prepare students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and careers. During the fall of 2010, the Digital Learning Council defined the elements and identified the actions that need to be taken by lawmakers and policymakers to foster a high quality, customized education for all students. This includes technology-enhanced learning in traditional schools, online and virtual learning, and blended learning that combines online and onsite learning.
Online Learning Consortium (OLC)
The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) is a leading organization devoted to advancing quality online learning by providing professional development, instruction, best practice publications and guidance to educators, online learning professionals and organizations around the world. OLC is a key factor in the transformation of the e-Education field. Through our conferences, quality learning opportunities, and tools for individual and institutional success we have been a part of this swift growth. Renaissance Learning
This distance learning program offers a self-paced math curriculum from first grade through first-year calculus. Pre-tests identify areas mastered and those still requiring work. Program does not provide any instruction, but generates worksheets with problems in areas which require further work.
SIG Online Learning Program
This is an exciting 8-week online program for gifted and talented students. These courses offer students curriculum beyond what is offered during the school day, are wide-ranging in potential interest areas for individualized learning, and engage students in hands-on learning while applying school content through speaking, writing, researching, analyzing, reasoning and questioning.
WiloStar3D
WiloStar3D Academy is an AdvanceED/SACS fully accredited online school for gifted and talented students in grades 6-12. WiloStar3D uses 3D virtual worlds and immersive learning to enhance the educational process. Students create interactive virtual worlds as part of the curriculum and higher order thinking is addressed throughout the program. WiloStar3D also offers Avatar Storytellers, History Teleporters and KooKee Town, stand-alone immersive learning programs for middle school aged gifted students and schools.

Brigham Young University (BYU) - Independent Study (Provo, UT)
This is a distance education program offering more than 500 university, high school, junior high school and personal enrichment courses to people throughout the world. BYU is accredited as an institution by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Courses can be taken through a paper/pencil version or an online version. The student studies the materials, submits lessons, takes a final exam with a proctor or at a testing center, and receives a course grade that can be transferred to the school of their choice.
Carnegie Mellon - Open Learning Initiative (Pittsburgh, PA)
Open and free courses through Carnegie Mellon's Open Learning Initiative offers free access to various courses no charge. However, users do not receive credit and Carnegie Mellon does not provide any certification or verification of completion. Use the self-guiding materials and activities to learn at your own pace! Center for Distance and Independent Study (CDIS) - University of Missouri (Columbia, MO)
Find gifted online courses for Middle and High School. Courses include both faculty- and computer-evaluated lessons. The University of Missouri-Columbia High School provides an accredited diploma program for students with a need for an alternative to traditional high school. There is also a Dual Enrollment program allowing qualified high school students to enroll in university-level courses offered through CDIS while paying only 50 percent of the normal University of Missouri educational fees.
Center for Talented Youth (CTY) - Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD)
The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University focuses on the needs of students with exceptionally high academic abilities. These students need special attention: greater academic challenges, interaction with intellectual peers, and teaching strategies designed especially for the gifted.
CU Online - University of Colorado (Boulder, CO)
This distance learning program offers the University of Colorado's catalog of online courses. More than 200 core curriculum, elective and professional development courses in a wide range of disciplines as well as several online degree programs and certificates are offered.
Davidson Academy (Reno, NV & Online Campuses)
The Davidson Academy offers two educational options for profoundly gifted students - an online campus for students living anywhere in the U.S. and Canada with classes starting at the eighth-grade level, AND a campus on the University of Nevada, Reno campus for local middle and high school students. The Academy is designed to be different with classes grouped by ability, not age. The Academy offers personalized learning plans for students allowing them to learn at their own pace and depth.
Davidson: Explore
The Davidson: Explore program provides Davidson Young Scholars and qualified gifted students, ages 9-13, with the opportunity to enrich their education by taking advanced middle school courses online adapted from the Davidson Academy’s rigorous curriculum. Designed to be different than other online courses, this year-long middle school gifted program helps students develop their academic and social skills by giving them a platform to learn at their academic level.
Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) - Duke University (Durham, NC)
The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) identifies academically talented children through the 4th-6th Grade Talent Search and the 7th Grade Talent Search, providing resources, enrichment activities, and advice to ensure students reach their highest potential. TIP also offers educational programs for students in grades four through 12, including residential summer programs, weekend programs during the academic year, distance learning programs, and independent learning options.
Empire State College (Saratoga Springs, NY) - Center for Distance Learning
The distance learning program at SUNY Empire State College offers several different instructional opportunities. Programs include courses for matriculated and non-matriculated students and learning contracts for independent studies, certificate programs, and residencies.
Independent High School Program - University of Nebraska (Lincoln, NE)
With more than 100 courses to choose from for students in grades 9-12, this distance learning program through the University of Nebraska, Lincoln offers an online, convenient course delivery system coupled with the dependability of an accredited, university-based high school. The school's students can be in a home school environment, a learning organization, a traditional high school, or have a lifestyle of extensive travel. Students can transfer credits back to a school or organization of their choosing, or earn a fully-accredited, college-prep diploma. Graduates receive a diploma that meets the admissions standards of colleges and universities across the nation.
Indiana Academy Distance Learning Program - Ball State University (Muncie, IN)
The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities' Office of Outreach Programs extends the institute's mission to other schools and students throughout the state using the most economical and effective technologies available. This also allows us to serve students around the globe who are in need of advanced courses. Through these various Outreach programs, the Indiana Academy strives to stimulate and enable vitality in educational programs for academically gifted students and teachers.
Indiana University Distance Learning
Indiana University Distance Learning Program is a recognized leader in distance education and technology-based instruction. Through the combined efforts of different departments, hundreds of courses are offered at a distance to students every year.
Indiana University South Bend - Distance Learning (South Bend, IN)
Indiana University South Bend offers high school students the chance to explore the campus in two ways: taking college classes while still in high school or becoming an IU South Bend student. A "to-do" calendar is also provided on the admissions page for students to refer to during their senior year of high school.
MathOnline - University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (CO)
MathOnline allows gifted high school students the opportunity to take college courses, earning transferrable college credit upon successful completion of them. The courses are identical to the traditional courses offered to students on campus. Homework is completed on the same schedule as on-campus students, submitted through email or fax. There is no difference in tuition for in-state or out-of-state students.
Missouri Virtual Instruction Program (MoVIP) - Missouri State University
The Missouri Virtual Instruction Program exists to help small rural schools in Missouri provide rigorous courses for qualified students when these schools cannot find or afford certified/qualified classroom teachers in a particular discipline.
New Mexico Highlands University, Dual Enrollment/Early Admission (Las Vegas, NM)
The Dual Credit Program allows high school students to enroll in college courses in postsecondary institutions (universities, colleges, and community colleges) prior to high school graduation, giving them enrichment opportunities and first-hand experiences with the requirements of college-level work. Dual credit students receive both high school and college credit simultaneously. Tuition and standard fees are waived by NMHU for students participating in this program.
Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University
This website -- the Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University -- now contains more than 1 Gigabyte of writing-related material, with new material being added almost every month. The web site contains hypertext workshops and subject tutorials on writing research papers, resumes, and cover letters, huge collections of links to help users find information on the Internet, PowerPoint presentations about all aspects of writing that can be downloaded for use in classes or individual study, and a voluminous quantity of web pages that cover all aspects of writing – from cover letters to commas.
Open Yale Courses - Yale University (New Haven, CT)
Open Yale Courses provides free and open access to a selection of introductory courses taught by distinguished teachers and scholars at Yale University. The aim of the project is to expand access to educational materials for all who wish to learn. All lectures were recorded in the Yale College classroom and are available in video, audio, and text transcript format. Registration is not required and no course credit is available.
Robinson Center for Young Scholars at the University of Washington (Seattle, WA)
The University of Washington is home to an internationally unique and renowned resource for gifted students, the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars. For more than 25 years, the Robinson Center has been the gateway through which some of the brightest young scholars in Washington state enter the University of Washington and/or participate in academically accelerated summer courses. The Early Entrance Program and UW Academy are the Robinson Center’s early university entrance programs. The Robinson Center also offers summer academic programs for students finishing the 5th-10th grade, as well as a Saturday Enrichment Program during the school year and the Robinson Center Online Program.
Robinson Center for Young Scholars at University of Washington - Online Program (Seattle, WA)
Robinson Center (RC) Online is a new accelerated learning opportunity designed by the Transition School faculty, bringing an advanced college-prep curriculum to an online platform for all high school students. Their goals are: to provide students with an inspiring, expansive educational experience that allows them to see how far they can go; to be a window into what college-level work will be like; to move students rapidly from novice to advanced writers, readers and thinkers via specific skills, practices and tools. RC Online is committed to providing high quality, exciting educational opportunities for students who have traditionally found access to such programs to be difficult, if not impossible. Whether access is limited due to socio-economic background, race, geographic location, or other factors, the Robinson Center’s online courses provide a challenging curriculum without the logistical, economic and other barriers that come between a student and educational opportunity.
Stanford Online High School (OHS)
The Stanford Online High School (OHS) is an independent school for academically talented and motivated students in grades seven through 12. Online instruction includes live, synchronous seminars on a college-style class schedule, encouraging independence, discipline and strong time-management skills. The varied needs, interests and exceptional talents of our students are accommodated by the flexibility of Stanford OHS enrollment options, which include full-time, part-time and single course enrollment. Students are supported by counselors, college counselors and academic advisors. Beyond the online classroom, students engage in a rich array of extracurricular, student-led clubs, homeroom, and assemblies. A two-week intensive residential summer program at Stanford University presents students with further opportunity to connect with each other and their instructors.
Stanford Pre-Collegiate University-Level Online Math & Physics
Stanford Pre-Collegiate University-Level Online Math & Physics courses bring motivated and academically-talented high school students together to allow them to explore their intellectual passions, develop analytic reasoning and creative thinking, and study directly with expert instructors. These online courses are offered throughout the year and give students the opportunity to take a broad offering of math and physics courses not typically offered in secondary schools. Courses in the University-Level Online Math & Physics programs are largely self-paced. Expert instructors are available for optional office hours to meet with students online and offer assistance as they progress through the course material. All courses carry Stanford University Continuing Studies credit, and students earn a Stanford Continuing Studies transcript. Formerly offered as University-Level EPGY and OHSx online courses at Stanford.
The George Washington University Online High School (Ashburn, VA)
The George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS) is an independent private school for students in grades 9–12 who seek a rigorous yet flexible college preparatory program.
University College at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX)
Texas Tech University offers educational programs to K-12 and college students, professionals and those seeking lifelong learning opportunities. Texas Tech’s distance learning programs enable students to pursue educational goals while providing the flexibility needed to maintain professional and personal commitments.
University of Alabama - Early College/Dual Enrollment (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Certain high-school students are allowed to enroll in college-level courses in order to earn credits that apply to both undergraduate degrees and high-school diplomas. Students who have exceptionally high grades and high ACT or SAT scores and who have strong endorsements from their high schools and parents may also be considered for admission without completing the senior year of high school.
University of Georgia - Gifted Endorsement (Athens, GA)
This is an add-on endorsement to a Georgia teaching certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Endorsement courses are open to UGA graduate students; non-students may complete the program by applying to the UGA Graduate School for non-degree status.
University of Great Falls (MT)
The University of Great Falls, located in Great Falls, Montana, is dedicated to providing students with professional career programs and continuing education courses. This Catholic University upholds its gospel values within its tradition. Applicants can apply at anytime; students with a GED are also eligible. The Distance learning program hosts several complete degrees and over one hundred courses every year, allowing students to work online.
University of Missouri Center for Distance & Independent Study's MU High School (Columbia, MO)
The mission of the University of Missouri High School is to provide distance learning courses, through a variety of delivery methods, that will complement traditional high school curricula and provide an accredited diploma program for independent learners of all ages seeking an alternative to traditional high school attendance.

Summer Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP)- A head start to an accelerated high school experience for upper-middle school students (grades 7-8). Both residential and commuter options available.

21st Century Cyber Charter School (Exton, PA)
This public, tuition-free alternative school for grades 6-12 has been in existence since 1999. It provides all Pennsylvania students the opportunity to experience a quality curriculum, designed to meet their individual needs by enabling motivated students to accelerate their education or graduate early. The school is chartered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
American High School
American High School's virtual school program offers quality, Internet-delivered online high school and middle school courses for students throughout the United States and internationally. Since 2004, American High School has enrolled over 8,000 students.
Athena's Advanced Academy
Athena's Advanced Academy offers a wide variety of fast-paced, exciting online classes for a community of gifted students learning at elementary through lower high school levels. Parents have the freedom to place their children into appropriate classes defined by abilities, not ages. Athena’s provides live webinars for most classes, moderated discussion boards, and activities promoting online peer interaction.
Chase Hill School for Literary Arts
This is a small distance learning school that provides high-quality tutorials for adults and children 10 and older. Tutorials offer genuine, constructive interaction between student and teacher and complete flexibility with regard to both assignments and genres, in order to accommodate each student's unique gifts and interests.
Cleveland Institute of Electronics (CIE)
This distance learning program features hands-on, self-paced correspondence courses including electronic kits that teach specific electronics subjects through associate's and Bachelor degree levels in electronics technology and engineering.
Connections Education
Connections Education® offers K-12 online public schools and online private schools (Connections Academy®) as well as a blended learning program for high school students (Nexus Academy®).
Edhesive
This organization combines online instruction from nationally recognized experts with the personal touch of local coaches, who offer students face-to-face guidance and support. Nationally recognized computer science educators provide online, College Board-approved instruction. Their AP Computer Science course includes a complete, year-long curriculum that includes video lessons and interactive, automatically graded assessments.
Gifted LearningLinks Program (GLL) at the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern
Gifted LearningLinks (GLL) offers engaging gifted online courses and programs, including family programs, enrichment, core essentials, honors, and AP® courses for gifted and talented students in kindergarten through grade 12. Eligible home schooled, elementary, middle or high school students can accelerate and broaden their knowledge base any time and any place. GLL courses provide rigorous, individualized instruction helping gifted students to achieve their educational goals.
Iowa Online Advanced Placement Academy (IOAPA)

gives students an opportunity to take college-level courses and exams while still in high school. IOPA also offers AP training for teachers as well as information for mentors. Courses are offered through Apex Learning and include both Essentials and Comprehensive Courses.
My Ivy Education

Hippocampus
HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE). The goal of HippoCampus is to provide high-quality, multimedia content on general education subjects to high school and college students free of charge. HippoCampus content has been developed by some of the finest colleges and universities in the world and contributed to the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC), another MITE project.
LIVE Online Math
LIVE Online Math offers math classes, workshops, and tutoring via LIVE, real-time sessions. Students meet “face to face” with the teacher and participate in a web meeting where video, audio, and an interactive whiteboard are used for learning activities. Classes meet regularly and offer a high degree of collaboration between students (in a small group setting). Tutoring is usually a 1 on 1 learning environment, but a custom program can be put together for a small group. Tutoring can also take on the form of a personalized learning program. All ages are welcome and services are currently offered through Algebra II. Video-based courses will be offered for the 2010-2011 school year.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Fab Lab
Fab labs provide widespread access to modern means for invention. They began as an outreach project from MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). Fab labs have spread from inner-city Boston to rural India, from South Africa to the North of Norway. Activities in fab labs range from technological empowerment to peer-to-peer project-based technical training to local problem-solving to small-scale high-tech business incubation to grassroots research. Projects being developed and produced in fab labs include solar and wind-powered turbines, thin-client computers and wireless data networks, and much more.
Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA)
This free online educational source offers advance placement testing, educational tools, complete curriculum from K12, loaner computer and printer, textbooks and materials, and guidance from an experienced teacher. Students study at their own pace and progress to the next course as they master the required skills for advancement.

Khan Academy offers hundreds of free practice exercises and instructional videos for differentiated learning. Their personalized learning dashboard empowers students to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. KA tackles math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Their math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. KA has also partnered with institutions like NASA, Pixar, The College Board, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
